A developer at SpareBank 1 Østlandet and previously at SpareBank 1 Utvikling. Schooled and raised on the JVM and got his love for Kotlin after finishing his degrees from UiB and UiO. Håvard has been subjected to countless brutal hours of development using React in addition to cruising smoothly around the Kotlin backend. Now, not unlike Hannah Montana, he has found a way to get the best of both worlds.

Explore why developers at SpareBank 1 Østlandet decided to build their frontend using Kotlin DSL for HTML with HTMX rather than "traditional" JavaScript frameworks, and which experiences we are left with a year later.

I will walk you through reasons to think different (and perhaps old-fashioned) about the frontend, and why in some cases it still makes sense to stick with JS frameworks such as React.

You will also learn how you can get started with the HTMX/Kotlin stack for yourself.
