If you are tired of API churn, bundlers, transpilers and JS dependency hell, we may have a solution for you.
Explore why developers at SpareBank 1 Østlandet decided to build their frontend using Kotlin DSL for HTML with HTMX rather than "traditional" JavaScript frameworks, and which experiences we are left with a year later.
I will walk you through reasons to think different (and perhaps old-fashioned) about the frontend, and why in some cases it still makes sense to stick with JS frameworks such as React.
You will also learn how you can get started with the HTMX/Kotlin stack for yourself.
Amongst other things we will discuss:
1. The web 1.0 frontend and how the frontend space ended up where it is today
2. HTMX: What it is, why it is incredibly powerful and how to use it
3. Kotlin DSL for HTML and how to serve HTML using KTor
4. A quick tour of AlpineJS to get the full interactivity we have gotten used to on the modern web
